O prazo varia conforme o fabricante, mas hoje a média recomendada é a cada 10 mil quilômetros rodados. Para quem não se liga muito nisso, é só lembrar de conferir as informações no manual do proprietário do carro.
Conforme destaca o reparador Reinaldo Jardim, da Foxcar Oficina Técnica, “o óleo lubrificante envelhece depois de um tempo de uso e começa a oxidar; é quando perde sua principal característica, que é a capacidade de lubrificar e também de garantir a troca de calor para ajudar a manter a temperatura no nível ideal.”
Ou seja, se perde a eficiência, o óleo lubrificante começa a comprometer o trabalho do motor e isso vai gerar um desagaste prematuro e encurtar consideravelmente a vida útil do conjunto.
Tipos de óleo lubrificante
Atualmente, os óleos lubrificantes são divididos em três tipos: mineral, semissintético e sintético. O mineral tem custo menor e é utilizado nos carros antigos. Já o sintético é um produto recente, desenvolvido para os atuais e modernos motores, que trabalham em temperaturas mais altas, por isso tem vida útil maior e é um pouco mais caro.
Entre os dois, há o semissintético, que tem uma composição mista – formada pelos óleos mineral e sintético – e fica também numa faixa intermediária em desempenho e preço.
Hoje existem diferentes marcas de lubrificantes e as fabricantes de automóveis indicam a marca projetada para o motor de cada modelo. Mas isso não significa que você seja obrigado a comprar somente determinada marca quando for fazer a troca de rotina. Aliás, aqui vai outra dica: o importante é respeitar a especificação do lubrificante recomendado para o motor do seu carro.
Sopa de letrinhas?
Para não errar na escolha do lubrificante, é bom saber o que significam a letra e os números das embalagens de óleo. Trata-se da classificação do óleo e para qual tipo de motor ele foi projetado: pode ser 10W40, 15W30, 5W40, 20W50 e por aí vai.
A letra “W” vem da palavra “winter”, de inverno em inglês. Assim, o primeiro número traduz qual é a viscosidade do óleo em baixa temperatura, com o motor ainda desligado; já o segundo número após a letra “W” aponta a viscosidade do óleo a 100 graus Celsius, quando o motor está em trabalho pleno.
Não esqueça do filtro de óleo
Além das características dos óleos lubrificantes, anote outro cuidado para não esquecer nunca: vai trocar o óleo lubrificante, nem pense em manter o filtro de óleo usado. “Você tem que substituir o filtro de óleo sim, porque ele retém impurezas e garante o bom fluxo de lubrificação.
O óleo novo em contato com um filtro velho acaba absorvendo contaminantes, é como se o motor ainda estivesse com o lubrificante usado; é jogar dinheiro fora!”.
